The gift they’ll actually remember

Quick question: can you remember what you got for Christmas two years ago? Exactly. Most presents are forgotten by February, but a Disneyland Paris holiday is different. It’s months of looking forward to it, a countdown on the fridge, and then a family holiday at the end that no one will forget.

How We Gave Disneyland Paris for Christmas

Ten Christmases ago, our elves left two little cards before heading back to the North Pole, one for each boy. They were tied up in ribbon with Chip and Dale toys and tucked into the tree. But the boys didn’t spot them until every present had been opened and the day had gone quiet. (I may have mentioned I could see something sparkly in the branches…)

The notes were clues, which sent them hunting around the house until they found a box full of Toy Story balloons and Disney T-shirts. Disneyland Paris!

We went just after New Year, so the boys barely had a week to wait. Booking for the summer gives you a much longer countdown, and honestly, half the fun is the build-up.

So if you’re thinking about giving your family Disneyland Paris this Christmas, here’s how to do it in easy steps:

  • How to book it as a gift
  • Which hotel to pick
  • When to go
  • A few ideas for the big reveal

Why a Disney hotel package makes a brilliant gift

A hotel and ticket package is one booking with everything in it: your room, your park tickets, and a few perks you only get by staying with Disney. Nothing to piece together, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to keep a secret.

  • It’s all in one. Hotel and park tickets for both parks, booked together.
  • You get extra park time. Disney hotel guests can use Extra Magic Time, 1 hour early entry before the day visitors arrive.
  • You’re right in the middle of it. Every Disney hotel is either walking distance or a short shuttle ride from the parks, aside from Disney Davy Crockett Ranch, which is close by if you’re driving. And the Disney theming starts the moment you check in.
  • It’s a gift that works from anyone (and for anyone!). Parents, grandparents, godparents: it’s a gift the whole family opens together.

How to book a Disneyland Paris holiday as a gift

  1. Do a little detective work on dates. You’ll need school holiday dates and any work leave, ideally without giving the game away. ‘Just planning ahead for next year’ covers a multitude of sins.
  2. Pick your hotel. More on that below, but for a family of four on a sensible budget, Disney Hotel Cheyenne is my go-to.
  3. Book the package on the Disneyland Paris website. Choose your dates, hotel, room and number of park days, and it’s all wrapped up in one booking. 👉 Start building your package here
  4. Keep it secret. Think about whose inbox the confirmation lands in, who else sees your bank app, and where you keep anything you print.

Which Disney hotel to choose for a family gift

For most families, I’d pick Disney Hotel Cheyenne. It’s the one I recommend most for first-timers with kids, because the theming does a lot of heavy lifting for the price.

Disney Hotel Cheyenne: my pick for families

  • Wild West meets Toy Story, with Woody’s Roundup rooms the kids will love
  • Woody and Jessie character meets
  • An on-site Starbucks for the grown-ups
  • More budget-friendly than the higher-tier hotels

The honest bits: it’s around a 15-minute walk to the parks, the shuttle gets busy at closing time, there’s no pool, and there’s no lift for first-floor rooms. None of that has ever put me off, but it’s worth knowing.

If the budget stretches

Want to really treat the family? Two upgrades are worth a look:

•  Disney Newport Bay Club is my pick for a summer trip. It has seaside New England theming right on the edge of Lake Disney, and a pool, which is a lifesaver on a hot afternoon when little legs need a break from the parks.

•  Disneyland Hotel is the full fairytale. It sits right at the park entrance, with princess meets, a pool and spa, and rooms that feel fabulously royal.

I stayed at both the 5-star Disneyland Hotel and budget-friendly Disney Hotel Cheyenne to see exactly what the extra money buys you, so have a look at my hotel comparison or watch the reel if you’re tempted.

Spreading the Cost

You can secure a Disneyland Paris package with only a 15% deposit and pay the balance in 5 parts finishing 60 days before your trip, which makes an upgrade (or the whole gift) much easier to fit around Christmas spending.

📆 When to go to Disneyland Paris

The summer holidays are a brilliant choice for a Christmas gift. The kids are off, the evenings are long and light, and they get seven months of countdown first. Handily, it’s also when the Cheyenne price example above applies, for arrivals from 23 July to 28 August 2027.

I always play around with dates on the Disneyland Paris website to find the package that fits my family best, so it’s worth trying a few. Summer is busy, though, so have a read of my crowd tips post before you go.

What’s on by season

  • Spring: Mild with the odd shower (pack a poncho). The Easter holidays bring extra crowds, but usually a bit more entertainment too, plus longer park hours than earlier in the year. The beginning of March is usually quieter.
  • Summer school holidays: Long sunny days, late park hours and outdoor shows, with Alice and the Queen of Hearts: Back to Wonderland returning in 2027. It’s a very popular time of year, so bring your patience and your sun cream.
  • Halloween: From the end of September and throughout October, the parks feel autumnal and filled with pumpkins, spooky character costumes and villain shows. Weekdays are calmer than weekends.
  • Christmas: From November to January, Disney Enchanted Christmas brings all the festive feels, dazzling lights, the giant tree and even a nighttime parade. It’s gorgeous, but busy (and cold), so wrap up warm.

Want a quieter (and cheaper) trip? January and early February are hard to beat.

Planning the big reveal

Your reveal can be as simple or as fancy as you like. In our Facebook Group, I’ve seen all kinds of Disneyland Paris for Christmas gift reveals:

  • hand-painted signs
  • jigsaws with the dates on the very last piece
  • balloons
  • packed suitcases
  • personalised reveal videos

Whatever your budget, the bit everyone remembers is the moment it clicks. (And yes, you’re allowed to do a reveal for yourself. You did all the planning, after all.)

Give the gift of a magical holiday

Most of what we unwrapped that Christmas is long forgotten, but the boys’ faces when they opened that box? That one stuck. A holiday is a present that keeps going: months of countdown, a few days of pure fun, and a story the family will tell for years.

So if you’re stuck on what to get everyone this year, wrap up the surprise for Christmas morning and save the holiday itself for a bit later. If that sounds like you, all you need to do is pick your dates, choose your hotel, and start planning the reveal!

TL;DR: Which Disneyland Paris Christmas gift suits your family?

  • Family of four on a sensible budget: Disney Hotel Cheyenne. Toy Story theming the kids will love, at a more family-friendly price.
  • Going in the summer holidays and want a pool: Disney Newport Bay Club, for seaside New England style and somewhere to cool off after the parks.
  • Want to really spoil them (or have princess fans): the Disneyland Hotel, right at the park entrance, with princess meets and a pool and spa.
  • Worried about committing to dates: book with Disney’s Flexible Booking and change or cancel for free up to 7 days before arrival.
  • Christmas budget already stretched: secure the package with a 15% deposit and pay the rest in instalments.
  • Grandparents or godparents gifting the whole family: a hotel and ticket package keeps it to one booking, with nothing to piece together.
  • Want a reveal they’ll never forget: try a clue in the tree, a jigsaw with the dates on the last piece, or a packed suitcase.
