Family film of the month – Raya and the Last Dragon
Disney has knocked it out of the park again! Our family film of the month is quite spectacular.
You already know that we are massive Disney fans, so it’s no surprise that we are wild about Raya and the Last Dragon.
The world-building in Raya is just as phenomenal as the trailer had promised with a distinctive ethereal quality. If you think about the way a bubble shines, you’ll be able to imagine the iridescent palette that the animators used. This is fitting as the film stars a water dragon named Sisu (voiced by one of my favourite actors, the wonderful Awkwafina). And water plays a big role in keeping back the Druun, a mindless plague turning the world to stone.
The graphics in Raya and the Last Dragon are breathtaking. The character design of the dragon is spot on, and transitions to her human form are really consistent too.
There are lots of cute twists and turns, and children will appreciate the unique cast of villains. I won’t give away too much but no one is quite all they seem. Look out for that baby, there’s more than meets the eye!
Being a Disney film, there is no huge deter from their classic story formula. So expect a strong female protagonist who journeys to discover more about her abilities, and of course that wonderful happy ending. How you get there is the real magic.
Raya and the Last Dragon is an absolute delight, so make sure you see it with your family and enjoy a dazzling film that will lift your spirits and make you laugh.
You know your family best, but we would recommend this for children 8+ because the Druun could potentially be a little frightening for a younger audience.
