If you’ve been in our Disneyland Paris planning group this week, you’ll have seen the posts:
– Photos of huge boards around the castle blocking the bridge
– Worried first-timers asking if they should cancel
– A comment thread that somehow turned into a small civil war and is longer than War and Peace

And if you’ve just spent thousands on a once-in-a-lifetime trip… I completely understand why seeing construction walls around the castle feels a bit heartbreaking.

Should We be Panicking..?

Some of the die-hard Disney brigade are fighting back on this construction-wall-outrage with a breezy ‘don’t worry about it!’ that dismisses everyone’s feelings.

But, that’s not overly helpful. What about:

– Castle photos?
– The evening fireworks?
– The shops inside the castle, and the dragon underneath?

Importantly, What does this mean for your trip, and what (if anything) do you need to do about it?

The short answer for most people visiting right now the answer is somewhere between ‘very little you can do’ and ‘genuinely nothing at all.’

If this is your first visit and you’ve had the whole thing built up in your head for months, you have my sympathy. As a castle lover, I get it, I really do.

What’s Actually Happening With the Disneyland Paris Castle Construction 2026

In plain words: The Sleeping Beauty Castle bridge is being refurbished. Thoroughly, structurally refurbished — not just a quick lick of paint and a couple of potted plants moved around.

Here are the answers to some popular questions I’ve seen floating about:

❓What is the schedule for the Disney Paris Castle refurbishment?

Works started on 4th May 2026 and Disneyland Paris officially stated they are scheduled to run through to late September 2026. For the official breakdown straight from the source, DLP Works covered the full announcement back in March.

❓Why is it being repaired now?

The bridge itself last had major reconstruction in 2010, so after more than fifteen years of millions of footsteps, harsh winters and a frankly impressive amount of weather exposure, it needed attention. The structure required it.

There’s no devious villain here just a very old bridge that had been crumbling for a while and finally got moved up the to-do list. Since the park is open 365 days a year, there’s no perfect time to close it, but the warmer, drier months are far better for getting the work completed quickly.

❓What does this castle bridge construction look like?

I know you’re thinking, ‘Yiiiikes!’ But, here’s the worst of it, I promise:

• White hoarding boards were replaced by painted boards and are now blocking the castle bridge area.
• The bridge is not currently accessible to guests.
• The fountains in front of the castle have been temporarily switched off during the works which affects the nighttime show.

❓Why Does Disneyland Paris Castle have boards up?

Those construction boards are doing double duty, for what it’s worth — they’ve been specifically installed to allow the nighttime show, Disney Tales of Magic, to keep running with its projections adjusted around the construction.

So they’re not just safety boards (which are important of course!); they’re actually part of keeping the evening entertainment going.

What Not to Worry About

The castle itself? The shops? The dragon?

Still there. The Castle is still tall, still pink, still absurdly beautiful. Fully accessible via La Tanière du Dragon and the castle courtyard in Fantasyland. The glass-makers and Christmas ornament shops (pictured above) inside are still open. You just head in from the Fantasyland side rather than straight through the front.

A slight reroute to these attractions, but not a closure.

Honestly, Does the Construction Affect the Castle Daytime Experience?

Obviously that’s the first thing people want to know, and it’s the one where I’d respectfully push back on some of the more (ahem) dramatic reactions circulating online.

Adding to the worry is that photos have a way of making things look so much worse than they feel in person.

That’s not me being dismissive. It’s just genuinely true, and it’s worth keeping in mind before your pre-trip anxiety really gets going.

What You Honestly Might Be Mad About

Specifically, the big boards around the bridge area are a nuisance. That’s a fact.

If you were hoping to walk straight up to the very front of the castle and take a centred, unobstructed photo from that classic angle — you won’t get that right now. That’s a fair thing to feel mildly put out about.

Best Tips for Alternative Castle Photo Spots Right Now

If it’s photos you’re most concerned about, this is going to make a real difference to your experience:

A photograph of the boards can make things look far worse than they feel when you’re actually standing there, and there are other ways to capture your once-in-a-lifetime castle moment.

What About the Night Show — Is ‘Disney Tales of Magic’ Still Worth Watching?

Yes. I’ll say that clearly before anything else: yes, absolutely, go and watch Disney Tales of Magic even during the construction on the castle bridge.

I’ve seen a lot of worry in the groups about the night show being affected, and I want to be straightforward about it — for most people watching from Main Street or anywhere with a reasonable distance from the castle (see photo above), the boards are going to make very little difference to what you actually experience.

Why the Castle Construction Won’t Likely Affect You Too Much

Disney Tales of Magic lives on the pictures on the castle, in fireworks in the sky above, and on the Main Street shop front projections. And especially in the music in the air around you.

Nothing in that show happens on the bridge —everything happens on Main Street or above the bridge (and those boards).

What is Blocking Your View More Than the Boards (Unfortunately)

For 95% of people, the people in front of you are more likely to block your view than the hoarding boards. Like, a lot more people.
– People with their phones up and camera lights on recording videos they’ll never watch again
– People who can’t help being taller than you and your kids (some wearing mouse ear headbands for extra height)
– Parents with children up on their shoulders because, Surprise! You didn’t know that when you picked a great spot
– Someone with a mahoosive balloon tied to a stroller now bopping around in the wind

All of these have a much bigger impact on what you can see than the white boards across the bridge.

…And What is Actually Different Until Late September 2026

The water fountain effects in front of the castle are off during the works, which is a genuine change to Disney Tales of Magic during the castle construction at Disneyland Paris.

But they have added additional pyrotechnic sequences to compensate — so there’s actually more going on above the castle, not less. Yay for small mercies.

What If You’ve Booked Reserved Viewing for the Fireworks During the Construction?

This question is everywhere right now, and it deserves a proper answer.

But before we all start stomping our feet and shouting, I PAID ALL THIS MONEY AND IT’S TOTALLY RUINED, can we all pause and remember: The reserved viewing area ticket — and the priority access pass — is primarily about convenience, extra time in the parks and comfort, not about the view itself.

What the priority access pass allows and what the reserved access you’re paying for gives is the ability to turn up to the castle relatively close to showtime and still have space around you, without needing fight someone or stake out a patch of pavement 90 minutes in advance. For families with young children, anyone who doesn’t love crowds, or people who simply don’t want their evening revolving around queue management — that value hasn’t changed.

💡GOOD TO KNOW The free priority pass only covers one disabled person and two guests, including babies. If you want to stay together as a larger group — and require a similar relatively private space near the front — you may need a paid reserved access ticket for all of you to be together regardless of the boards situation.

⁉️ I only wanted pictures. Should I definitely Cancel Our Reserved Access tickets?

Where I’d be a bit more measured: if your main reason for booking the reserved area was to get a gorgeous, crisp photograph of yourself at the rope with the castle bridge and fireworks behind you — then, yes, consider cancelling.

Just bear in mind it’s dark, it’s always been dark, and that specific shot was never going to come out the way you’re imagining it anyway.

Night photography through a phone is… well. You know. (I say this as someone who has taken approximately four hundred terrible fireworks photos over the years and kept exactly none of them that have me in the frame.)

⁉️ Can You Get a Refund on Reserved Viewing Because of the Castle Construction Boards?

You can cancel and get a refund. Anyone can cancel for any reason, not just because they change their mind or hate the thought of these boards.

⁉️ What if I am Unhappy After Seeing the Show?

In the rare event you’re already in the park and genuinely unhappy, City Hall is your best port of call. Go with kindness, explain the situation, and see what they can do. They’re usually reasonable if you’re reasonable.

For First-Timers Going With Children — Especially If This Is a Big Trip

I want to sit with this one for a moment, because I’ve read through the comments and I understand why this lands harder for some families than others.

For anyone who has saved up for this trip, built up the excitement over months, and pictured that first walk up Main Street towards the castle — hearing about temporary walls is a genuinely disappointing thing to deal with. The castle is the image. It’s the one on the brochure, the one the parents have been dreaming about, the one that represents the whole idea of the thing. Feeling a bit deflated about it is completely valid.

But. (And there’s a big ‘But’). You Honestly Care More than Kids Do.

Take it from me as a parent: Children take an enormous amount of their cues from the adults around them.

If you frame it as an exciting detour — ‘we’re going round the special way to find the dragon today, not everyone knows this little secret’ — most children, especially younger ones, will follow that energy completely and not give the boards a second thought. The moment they get on their first ride, meet their first character, or have their first cotton candy thrust into their hands, the boards will not feature in the story they tell when they get home.

⁉️ What About Nerodivergent Children? Aren’t they going to have questions?

For children who might find an unexpected change harder to process, knowing about it in advance, framing it positively, and having a plan for where you will take the castle photos can make a real difference. A little preparation goes a long way.

Your trip is made of hundreds of small moments. The bridge is one small corner of a very big, very full day.

The Bigger Picture: Why Is This Happening Now?

This is the question underneath a lot of the frustration, and it’s a fair one.

The bridge needed serious work. It had needed it for a while — the structure had been in use for over fifteen years since its last full reconstruction, through all weather conditions and with millions of people walking over it every year. Major cement and structural work can’t be done in winter (cold, wet, potentially icy conditions — it simply doesn’t work). The park is open 365 days a year.

And with the park’s 35th anniversary coming in 2027, getting the castle looking its absolute best makes a lot of sense.

⁉️ Why Don’t they do This Bridge when the park isn’t busy?

Obviously, it’s not ideal timing if you happen to be going this summer. But it was always going to have to happen at some point, and not likely to be in the snow, during winter’s short daylight hours or under the thunderstorms of spring.

And the reality is that you’re now visiting a park that’s actively investing in looking after itself. Which is ultimately a good thing, even when the timing stings a bit.

Final Thoughts: Disneyland Paris is still Disneyland Paris

The castle is still there. The music still hits. Children still gasp when they walk underneath it for the first time. And honestly? Most families are still going home with exactly the memories they hoped for.

This is a small, temporary wall. By Halloween season it’ll be gone, the bridge will be beautiful, and nobody will mention it again.
