🚨 Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast Closed Until the End of 2025 – Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’ve got little space rangers in your crew (or you’re just a big kid like me), you might want to sit down for this one.
The Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast refurbishment means he is officially going on a long-haul mission – straight into deep-space maintenance mode. Yep, it’s now confirmed by Disney that the ride will be closed until the end of 2025 while it undergoes a major overhaul.
But don’t worry—he’s in good hands. Here’s what we know so far about the (and what you can do instead).
What’s Actually Changing for Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast?
According to Disney’s official refurbishment announcement, the Buzz Lightyear ride is getting more than just a quick polish and paint job. We’re talking a full space station overhaul:
🚀 Refreshed Facade at Star Command
The outside of the attraction—complete with energy collectors, solar panels, and futuristic flourishes—is being repainted and revamped. Even the lighting on the towers and the iconic Buzz statue are getting a facelift, so expect a more vibrant and visually updated entrance when it reopens.
🛸 Updated XP-41 Space Cruisers
That’s Disney-speak for the little laser cars we sit in. All current Astro Blasters (the laser guns you use to zap targets) will be completely dismantled and replaced, and the ride vehicles themselves are getting upgrades too—including fancy new dashboards with improved displays.
💡 Brighter Galaxy in Focus
A big part of the refurb involves updating the ride’s lighting effects and animatronics. Some of the targets used to rack up points against Zurg and his crew will be swapped out for new ones with sharper visuals and more precise performance. Basically, it’ll feel a lot more high-tech and a lot less ‘why isn’t my laser working?’
🤖 Revived Animatronics
Yes, those space villains and side characters dotted throughout the ride are also getting a tune-up. The Imagineering teams will be restoring several key audio-animatronics, which means smoother, more lifelike movement and (hopefully) fewer frozen poses.
When Will It Reopen?
According to both Disney and several trusted insiders, the ride won’t be back in action until late 2025. That means if you’re visiting any time this year, or even into the start of next year, you’ll need to plan your trip without Buzz.
And while Disney doesn’t usually announce closures more than two months ahead, this one was confirmed early due to the scale of the work. That said—we’re still waiting on the September refurbishment calendar, so at the moment, we only know officially what’s happening up to 31 August.

What to Do Instead: Best Buzz Alternatives 🚀
Let’s face it, Buzz fans will be disappointed. But don’t fret. There are plenty of other interactive, rideable, and Toy Story-themed adventures to fill the void:
🕸️ Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure (Walt Disney Studios Park)
The closest match in terms of gameplay! Use your arms (literally!) to sling webs and score points. It’s action-packed and surprisingly satisfying once you get the hang of it. Not to mention good for your biceps 💪.
🧸 Toy Story Playland (also in Studios)
If your kids are obsessed with Buzz, they’ll be thrilled to meet a giant talking Buzz Lightyear statue here, and it’s perfect for photos. And the rides?
- Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin (gentle fun!)
- RC Racer (high-speed thrills!)
- Parachute Drop (soaring views! Have a peak at Frozen World while you’re up there)
🚗 Autopia (Disneyland Park)
Let your kids take the wheel (sort of). These colourful cars drive along winding tracks, and little ones will love pretending to be in control. Even if you’re doing the pedals and most of the steering!
👻 Phantom Manor
For the slightly braver adventurer, this spooky mansion offers storytelling, creepy visuals, and a bit of a thrill, without being too scary.
🐀 Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy
Remy’s ride over in Walt Disney Studios Park is wacky, immersive, and full of fun for the whole family. A brilliant distraction from Buzz’s absence!
🎉 Catch Buzz in the Parade!
Buzz Lightyear still makes a daily appearance in Stars on Parade, so you can wave to your favourite Space Ranger as he rolls down Main Street. Check the Disneyland Paris app for the most up-to-date schedule.
Why Do Refurbishments Happen?
Disneyland Paris is known for its beautiful theming and attention to detail and that means regular upkeep is non-negotiable. Attractions are rotated in and out of refurbishment to keep everything safe, fresh, and visually stunning.
Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast has been around for a long time (since 2006, if you can believe it!) and it’s definitely earned a proper overhaul. This isn’t just a paint job! It’s a full refresh that’ll bring the experience up to the standards of newer rides like Spider-Man or Remy.
Can I Avoid Refurbishments?
I wish I had a magical answer, but… no. Disneyland Paris spreads refurbishments across the year, and there’s never a time when absolutely everything is open. However, they try to minimise closures during peak times, like summer holidays and Christmas.
So, while you may still find a ride or two closed, most of the big hitters are usually operating during school breaks and festive seasons.
Most of All: Don’t Stress About the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast Refurbishment
Buzz might be on a long space mission, but that doesn’t mean your Disneyland Paris holiday will be any less exciting. There’s so much to see, ride, eat, and explore. And the updated version of Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is going to be worth the wait (and another great reason to come back!).
