Disneyland Paris has confirmed that Tales of Magic drones will be permanently removed from the nighttime show starting April 1, 2026. The show will also undergo temporary modifications through September 2026.

Well… this was not on my bingo card.

Disneyland Paris has announced that the nighttime spectacular Disney Tales of Magic will soon be performed without drones.

Starting 1 April 2026, the show will continue each evening in Disneyland Park, but the drone sequences that appeared above Sleeping Beauty Castle will no longer be part of it.

For many fans, the drones were one of the most exciting elements of the show, so hearing that Disney Tales of Magic drones are being removed has definitely raised a few eyebrows.

If you’re wondering what this means for the show, here’s everything we know so far.

What’s Changing in Disney Tales of Magic

From April 2026, Disney Tales of Magic removes drones at Disneyland Paris.

Instead, the nighttime show will focus on:

  • projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle
  • projections along Main Street, U.S.A.
  • lighting effects
  • pyrotechnics (fireworks-style effects)

The show itself is not disappearing. It’s simply being performed in a version without drones.

Wait, What is ‘Tales of Magic’??

If you’re new to the show and wondering what it actually involves, don’t worry, I’ve written a full guide explaining the storyline, viewing spots, and tips for seeing it without huge crowds here:

Why Are the Drones Being Removed?

Disney hasn’t officially explained the decision yet, but if you’ve visited recently, you might already have a pretty good guess.

Drones are extremely sensitive to weather conditions. Even mild wind can stop them flying safely. Rain, drizzle, gusty evenings, or unstable conditions can all lead to cancellations.

In reality, this meant that Disney Tales of Magic often ran without drones anyway. (It sometimes felt like even a butterfly flapping too hard was enough to ground them!)

Because of this, many visitors may have already seen the drone-free version of Disney Tales of Magic, simply because the weather didn’t cooperate that night.

So, on the bright side, this change might actually make the show more consistent for guests.

Will the Show Still Be Worth Watching?

Absolutely.

Disney Tales of Magic is an award-winning nighttime show, and even without drones it looks specatacular. The projections stretch across both Sleeping Beauty Castle and the buildings along Main Street, turning the entire street into part of the story. The music builds beautifully, and the pyrotechnics still deliver a big emotional finale.

If you’ve never seen the show before, you probably won’t feel like anything is missing.

But if you have caught the drones on a perfect night… you’ll know they added something really special.

🚨 Temporary Changes to the Show from May 2026

And, while I hate to be the bearer of bad news, there’s another small change coming shortly after the Tales of Magic drones are removed.

From 4 May through the end of September 2026, the show will be slightly modified while refurbishment work takes place on the bridge leading to Sleeping Beauty Castle.

During this period:

  • the fountain effects will be removed
  • new pyrotechnic sequences will be added

So if you visit during those months, the show will look a little different while that work is happening.

Drones will still appear in Disneyland Paris’s new nighttime show, Disney Cascade of Lights at Disney Adventure World.

But Drones Aren’t Disappearing from Disneyland Paris!

Before anyone panics, drones aren’t leaving Disneyland Paris entirely.

In fact, they are expected to play a big role in the brand-new nighttime spectacular Disney Cascade of Lights, which will take place in Disney Adventure World.

This upcoming show over the lake is expected to feature:

  • drone choreography
  • fireworks
  • water screens
  • large-scale lighting effects

So while Disney Tales of Magic drones are being removed, drones themselves are still very much part of the future entertainment plans.

👱🏻‍♀️My Honest Thoughts

I’ll admit it. I feel a little sad about this one.

When the drones worked, they were stunning. Seeing glowing shapes appear above the castle added a sense of magic and wonder that felt really special.

But at the same time… they didn’t always fly.

In fact, I’ve probably seen Disney Tales of Magic without drones much more often than with them, simply because of the weather.

So in a strange way, this change might actually reduce disappointment for visitors. Instead of wondering whether the drones will fly tonight, everyone will now see the same version of the show.

Still, I will definitely miss them. Will you? Let me know in the comments below.
